Salma sets scene for show’s success

Here’s an article that provides some information about Salma Hayek (Producer on “Ugly Betty”). The article mentions “Ugly Betty”, Betty Suarez, and America Ferrera:  Further into the series, Salma steps off the Suarez’s television screen and into Betty’s life when she guest stars as Sofia Reyes, a “newcomer to the Mode Magazine scene, who’ll leave a lasting impression on Daniel (Eric Mabius) and Betty (America Ferrera).” And, her brief performance clearly made a lasting impression on the critics too, given that her stint as Sofia scored her an Emmy nod in the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category. What’s more, Ugly Betty earned the accolade of being the new series with the highest viewership during the 2006/07 US season and was awarded a Golden Globe for Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy), as well as Best Actress (America Ferrera).  Their is going to be a reality show (inspired by the TV show “Ugly Betty”) and it’s going to be called, “America the Ugly”. The show will take unattractive women and throw them into the beauty-obsessed fashion and modeling industries.

They’re ‘Ugly’ and they love it

I found this article about how things are going in the second season of “Ugly Betty”:For those of you who really loved the “Ugly Betty” scenes between Marc (Michael Urie) and Betty’s nephew Justin (Mark Indelicato), there’s more good stuff to come: Early in Season 2, Justin is one of several interns Marc has to manage.“I spent the whole morning screaming and yelling at them,” Urie told the Chicago Tribune of a recent day of filming. “They didn’t get the right kind of bendy straws for a Shakira photo shoot.”And of course, it wouldn’t be “Ugly Betty” without Marc and Amanda (Becki Newton) being sort of mean to Betty (America Ferrera), who remains, well, herself.“I think she’s exasperated by how pathetic we are, but I don’t think she judges,” Newton mused. And at least so far into the taping of Season 2, she still has the deeply unfortunate taste in clothes.“She could have gotten a makeover. She could have had (Mode seamstress) Christina tweeze her eyebrows and get her contacts and Invisaligns and get her better outfits,” Urie said. “But she doesn’t conform.”  Source: Kansas City.Com

ABC spells hope for diverse America

Bold scheduling earns Alphabet honors…Latinos are a burgeoning part of the U.S. population and a growing influence on American culture, but they’re stastically underrepresented both on TV and in TV.On TV, that is, in front of the camera, there just aren’t very many Latino characters. In TV, behind the camera, Latinos are also scarce. The 2007 Hollywood Writers Report stated that in television, “Latinos were the most underrepresented (minority) in 2005 at the rate of 6 to 1.”America Ferrera, star of ABC’s “Ugly Betty,” receives the Creative Achievement Award and Disney-ABC Television Group president Anne Sweeney will accept the President’s Award on behalf of her company in recognition of its support for Imagen’s mission to give access, education and opportunity to Latinos in the entertainment industry. If you’d like to read the full article, go here.

America Ferrera leads Emmy pack with Ugly Betty

To read the full article, below will be the link to it.The Primetime Emmy Awards announced their nominees this morning, stunning critics with a few of their choices - as they somehow find a way to do every single year - with America Ferrera and her new hit Ugly Betty leading the way. New shows like Ugly Betty, 30 Rock, Brothers and Sisters, and shows that never got enough love like Entourage and Extras have pushed a few unworthy nominees, making a list that seems better than years past but proves that the Academy still has some work to do. The big winners this morning were Ugly Betty with America Ferrera and The Sopranos leading the nomination tally.Source/Full Article: Actress Archive

Who Will Emmy Love Most?

Seems like “Ugly Betty” and “Sopranos” are competing for who will Emmy love most. When the 59th Annual Emmy nominations are announced tomorrow morning, some “Sopranos” may be singing, and “Betty” may not seem quite so ugly.HBO’s long-running series, “The Sopranos,” and ABC’s freshman comedy,”Ugly Betty,” look to be shoo-ins for multiple nominations this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.”The Sopranos” has been rewarded by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences multiple times over the past ten years, and is expected to sweep nominations in drama categories again this time around. Not only does the mafia-themed series deliver consistent quality in virtually every aspect of performance and production, it has the added benefit of having just finished its run with its sixth (and final) season. The show may well be recognized by Academy voters for its overall contribution to television, and not just for its most recent episodes. Despite the mixed reviews surrounding the show’s infamous series finale, “Sopranos” buzz was at a fever pitch at the time the ballots were handed out to voters.Source: Access Hollywood
