n an interview in the new issue of the RTÉ Guide, ‘Ugly Betty’ star America Ferrera talks about living life in the public eye.
“It’s getting harder and harder to go out and not get recognised,” she says. “At first I had some anonymity because I could hide behind Betty, but now it’s impossible. Especially when I go out at lunchtime still dressed as Betty - that’s even harder.”
But Ferrera adds that she has not let fame affect her: “I’ve kind of got used to the media attention, I mean I’ve got used to seeing myself in a magazine.”
She continues: “When I see myself on the cover of a magazine, that feels just as much of a character to me as Betty does. They’re both extreme versions of who I really am. So it’s fun to get dressed up as Betty, and it’s fun to get dressed up for the red carpet. But I’m very aware that they are roles that I’m playing for certain reasons. And they’re not at all who I am. But as an actor, it’s fun to kind of explore those pieces of yourself. But I’m neither one in my own personal life.”
The full interview, including Ferrera’s comments on what’s in store on ‘Ugly Betty’, is available in the new RTÉ Guide.
