| New TV season brings crop of DVDs |

‘Heroes,’ ‘Ugly Betty,’ ‘House’ among shows hitting shelves soonUgly Betty: The Complete First Season: The Bettyfied Edition (Buena Vista, 23 episodes, six discs, $59.99) is a vivid reminder of the charm and campy humor of the series, right down to the bas-relief braces on Betty’s teeth on the box.Based on a telenovela, the series followed Betty (America Ferrera) as she tried to succeed at a fancy fashion magazine and in a world full of scheming and back stabbing. The series was often giddy fun, although it ended the first season with a multistory cliffhanger that included a big dose of misery.DVD extras include a making-of segment, deleted scenes, a look at the design of the series, a featurette on the use of green screens in the show, bloopers and audio commentaries. The show’s second season begins Sept. 27.Source: Ohio.com.

| The skinny on Hollywood |

Yes, bony actresses are sometimes targeted for ridicule in the media, but don’t be fooled — the pressure to look thin is fiercer than ever.Perhaps it’s a sign of Hollywood’s readjusted eye that whenever an average-size woman — a Jennifer Hudson or an America Ferrera — bursts into the limelight, there’s the predictable magazine frenzy over robust women who still manage to be successful, who are not going to commit hari-kari over being a size 10. Of course, in the cases of Hudson and Ferrara, their curves were specific to the roles they broke out in — in fact they became a shorthand for their character’s feistiness, for their willingness to defy the expected norms of their environments. Hey everyone… well, here’s some news:I can understand the desire to jump on the Ugly Betty bandwagon. After all, Salma Hayek’s show is a hit and has made America Ferrera a bona fide star. Plus, Hollywood is nothing if not a land of copycats. So the description of Berman’s new show is likely meant to draw comparisons to Ugly Betty, at least in some small way. But here’s the kicker: Ferrera’s character is “ugly” because the makeup artists and costume designers work hard to make a very attractive actress look nothing like herself. To read the full article, click here.It seems like Rick Fox will appear in the second season of “Ugly Betty”. Here’s what the article says:Retired professional basketball player Rick Fox will be appearing in the upcoming season of Ugly Betty, ABC Studios confirmed last week.Fox will appear in at least two episodes as Dwayne, a bodyguard to Mode Magazine’s wicked magazine editor, Wilhelmina Slater, played by Vanessa Williams. In real life, Fox and Williams have shared more than just a professional relationship, as the the two were once married, and have one daughter by the name of Sasha. For the entire article, click here. The new blood this year comes in the form of Tina Fey and America Ferrera. Both made a big splash on breakout new shows, giving them an edge in terms of freshness. Fey, in particular, will get strong support for the way “30 Rock” grew its audience.Ferrera was an instant sensation with “Ugly Betty,” succeeding in a tough role that requires her to be alternately goofy, naive, smart and subtle …America FerreraShow: “Ugly Betty”Emmy pedigree: First nomBest scene: Ferrera, in the pilot episode, cannily pleads her credentials for a job at a fashion magazine to an interviewer who has rejected her out of hand based on her appearance. Ferrera shows she can play smart as well as clumsy, all while executing a classic comedy scramble. Why she may win: Ferrera earned runaway praise when the show first debuted. Her underdog story reflects the character she’s playing, making both the actress and the role selling points.Maybe not: Ferrera is talented, but her competition has much deeper experience. She also may have a hard time being judged on her acting when the role relies so heavily on the gimmick of her appearance. Source: Variety.Com

Hey everyone… I was gone for awhile and I apologize for not letting you know. Here’s an interesting article on Diversity:”What’s kept diversity off of TV for a long time … is the feeling that it was not what people wanted to see, that [diversity] is not what middle America wanted. But the reality is that this country is becoming more and more diverse, and entertainment should be a reflection of that reality,” says Ferrera.Source: Diversity IncAmerica and her boyfriend Ryan Piers Williams have been said to be house hunting:Ugly Betty actress America Ferrera is house hunting with her longtime boyfriend, Ryan Piers Williams, PEOPLE reports.”They’re excited about it,” says the source. “All that matters to them is that they are together and that they find somewhere private. They aren’t one of those flashy couples.”Ferrera, 23, first met Williams, at University of Southern California when he cast her in his student film. Source: The BoshTheir is a RUMOR going on that America is engaged to Ryan (which is not true) they do share a golden retriever and are now just house hunting =) good for them.

Catch tonights episode of “Ugly Betty”… here’s the episode description of tonight:”Ugly Betty,” 8 p.m. on ABC. What do you do when the girlfriend of the guy you like invites you to a party, and the guy insists you go? If you’re Betty (America Ferrera), you invite your orthodontist along. Hey, he’s a guy, and he’s not bad-looking. Also in “Icing on the Cake,” Wilhelmina (Vanessa Williams) tries to fan the flames between Daniel and Alexis (Eric Mabius, Rebecca Romijn), and Amanda (Becki Newton) becomes someone’s muse.

Hey everyone… I found this article of the second season of “Ugly Betty”… here’s the article:ET is first on the set, visiting the “Ugly Betty” cast during the filming of season two!We caught up with AMERICA FERRERA, who filled us in on where her character, Betty, will be going this season. She tells us one theme may be “Betty taking care of everyone but also learning to take care of herself.”She also gave us a hint about an upcoming scene between her and new guest star RICK FOX, telling us exclusively: “While we were shooting the scene we were filming together, I woke up the next morning with a bruise on my face.”And we also spoke with one of the newest additions to the cast, FREDDY RODRIGUEZ, whose character, Gio, may end up being a love interest for Betty.Freddy, who was nominated for an Emmy in 2002 for his role of Federico Diaz on “Six Feet Under,” says that being on a highly acclaimed show like “Betty” reminds him of “what it was like on the first season of ['Six Feet Under'].”He also says that the cast has “embraced [me] with open arms … [I'm] just having a lot of fun right now.”ET has learned that VICTORIA BECKHAM may appear on “Ugly Betty” — and we have hottie ERIC MABIUS talking about the Posh cast addition!Eric first met Vic at an event for the UK Glamour magazine. He was named “Man of the Year,” while she took the “Woman of the Year” award.”She was very sweet,” he says of their meeting. “She said ‘I love your show, I watch it every week.’”Her comments and photos of the two of them together at the event prompted a rumor in the British press that Eric wanted Posh to appear on his show.In a case of gossip becoming fact — “Ugly Betty” producers heard the rumor and contacted her to make a guest appearance!Although the ink isn’t dry on the deal just yet, Eric says it’ll be real soon enough. As for what part Posh will play, he won’t reveal too much, but says “she’s going to be a bridesmaid” for an upcoming wedding on the show. Those were some things that are gonna happen on “Ugly Betty : Second Season”… can’t wait to watch the second season.

Here’s an article that provides some information about Salma Hayek (Producer on “Ugly Betty”). The article mentions “Ugly Betty”, Betty Suarez, and America Ferrera: Further into the series, Salma steps off the Suarez’s television screen and into Betty’s life when she guest stars as Sofia Reyes, a “newcomer to the Mode Magazine scene, who’ll leave a lasting impression on Daniel (Eric Mabius) and Betty (America Ferrera).” And, her brief performance clearly made a lasting impression on the critics too, given that her stint as Sofia scored her an Emmy nod in the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category. What’s more, Ugly Betty earned the accolade of being the new series with the highest viewership during the 2006/07 US season and was awarded a Golden Globe for Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy), as well as Best Actress (America Ferrera). Their is going to be a reality show (inspired by the TV show “Ugly Betty”) and it’s going to be called, “America the Ugly”. The show will take unattractive women and throw them into the beauty-obsessed fashion and modeling industries.

I found this article about how things are going in the second season of “Ugly Betty”:For those of you who really loved the “Ugly Betty” scenes between Marc (Michael Urie) and Betty’s nephew Justin (Mark Indelicato), there’s more good stuff to come: Early in Season 2, Justin is one of several interns Marc has to manage.“I spent the whole morning screaming and yelling at them,” Urie told the Chicago Tribune of a recent day of filming. “They didn’t get the right kind of bendy straws for a Shakira photo shoot.”And of course, it wouldn’t be “Ugly Betty” without Marc and Amanda (Becki Newton) being sort of mean to Betty (America Ferrera), who remains, well, herself.“I think she’s exasperated by how pathetic we are, but I don’t think she judges,” Newton mused. And at least so far into the taping of Season 2, she still has the deeply unfortunate taste in clothes.“She could have gotten a makeover. She could have had (Mode seamstress) Christina tweeze her eyebrows and get her contacts and Invisaligns and get her better outfits,” Urie said. “But she doesn’t conform.” Source: Kansas City.Com
